Government of Ontario

Transparency in Public Planning

The Premier keeps overriding processes that protect communities and the environment.

The powers that come with a Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) allow the government to skip evidence-based reviews and local planning processes. They are meant to be used as a last resort, but the Premier has time and time again handed them out to developers to skip environmental and planning reviews.

The Premier has quietly passed more MZOs during the pandemic than the previous government passed during its entire 15 years in office. In most cases their projects would otherwise be stopped because they compromise or harm local environments.

Add your name to call on the Premier to stop abusing MZOs to skip planning and environmental process.
