Support Jennifer’s Law: Stop taxing medical supplies

TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:

WHEREAS people undergoing cancer treatment or people recovering from illness or accident experience significant financial stress due to lost wages and hidden costs such as travel, child care, and medical supply expenses;

WHEREAS the cost of a wig for alopecia and/or medical supplies contributes to the financial burden of those experiencing illness, especially with the added cost of HST;

WHEREAS some medical and assistive devices are already HST exempt;

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to: immediately amend the Retail Sales Tax Act to exempt medical supplies, including wigs from alopecia and wound care supplies, so that necessary medical supplies required for healing are not taxed the Ontario portion of the HST.
